Trekking
around Upper Dolpo Region
(20 days//19 nights)
Glance
at a Dolpo Region
One
of the newest areas of Nepal open to trekkers is southern
part of Shey - Phoksundo National Park. Reached in about
a week from Jumla, the center of attraction is Lovely Lake
Phoksundo, famous forever changing color of its waters.
Here are steps on to the edge of the Trans-Himalayan plateau
that extends from Tibet down into Nepal. This is the region
of some of Nepal's most remarkable wildlife, including the
blue sheep, the Serow and Snow Leopard. The snow Leopard
and Himalayan pilgrimage have contributed to revealing the
mystery and attraction of Dolpo. Dolpo lies between Dhorpatan
and Rara and two of these treks could be combined into a
single tour from Pokhara to Jumla. Dolpo trek on its own
takes one to two weeks, assuming you fly there in and out
of Dunai. Everyone heads north form there in entering the
peak after about a day and teaching the lake after two days.
A few houses in the region after shelter but us a food deficit
area, so you will need to be self-sufficient.

Jumla
Rara Region
Background:
The
trek to Rara Lake begins at Jumla, a village in a Trans-Himalayan
village with rides covered with forests and alpine pastures.
The town has airstrip and Tele-communication facilities.
The flight from Kathmandu to Jumla passes south along the
Dhaulagiri range and provides lovely view of Nepal's western
landscape. It is three and a half-day's trek from Jumla
to Rara National Park. Rara Lake (2990m) has an area of
nearly ten Square Kilometers and is surrounding hills of
pines and Rhododendrons. The peaceful surrounding are enhanced
by the reflection of the surrounding hills in the Lake's
bright blue waters. Due north, chankheli peak (3201m) looms
large access the deep Mugu Karnali gorge. The usual itinerary
is a loop that starts and ends at Jumla and entire treks
about ten days. Food has to bring from Jumla but beyond
the Bazaar. It is often unavailable. There are lodges in
Jumla and bunk house at the Lake, in between there are ten
houses where you could stay but camping in more pleasant
and certainly more reliable.
Upper
Mustang Trekking( 16night 17 days)
Introduction:
In October
1991 the Nepalese government announced that all of Nepal
was open to trekking groups (but not to individuals), allowing
us the long awaited opportunity to visit the upper reac
hes
of the Kali Gandaki valley known as Mustang. Only a handful
of foreigners have ever visited this isolated region. It
is to be hoped that the limited number of trekkers allowed
into Mustang will also limit the amount of adverse change.
The
ancient Kingdom of Mustang was attached to Tibet in the
14th century although it remained an autonomous
dynasty. Latter it was annexed by Nepal, but the people
still remain predominantly Tibetan. Untouched by the outside
world or the Chinese Culture Revolution, 12th
century monasteries still remain active to preserve this
magnificent Trans-Himalayan kingdom, with their unrivalled
thankas, mandalas and deities.
In this
wild lunar landscape of unreal color and beauty, ruggedly
carved mountains reach up to deepen blue skies, while icy
peaks glimmer majestically to the south. Vast and barren
ridges extend to the northern horizon making one feel like
an insignificant dot on a timeless landscape. A journey
to Mustang is a journey of remarkable contrasts. Stark Tibetan
landscapes contrast with lush rice fields and Hindu shrines
with cliff monasteries.
Permits
& Rules:
In order to visit Mustang, all trekkers currently need
to pay US $ 700 for the 10 days and US $ 70 per day for
subsequent days. You must travel with a group. In Jomsom, one
can visit the check post and Tourist Department with your
permits and liaison officer, for a shot lecture on the rules
of trekking in Mustang.
